New quest just dropped!


A new quest has been added to the game, as discussed in the previous devlog. You have to complete the first quest to be able to start it, but it can be started by talking to the crow. Now for changes and bug fixes:

Bug fixes:

  • Fixed many problems created by jumping from main area to new portal.
  • Hovering on the inventory is working
  • Imbuing enemies was not despawning them, it is now.
  • Made a bunch of changes with the character combat state, it should be more intuitive than it was.

Changes and improvements:

  • Grasshoppers can be imbued for a slice special attack. This is effective against mayflies.
  • Enemies have drop tables that roll items at a given percent random chance.
  • A gate to the boss room was added that requires the player to have water attack beads equipped.

  • Added much needed improvements to character creator. Colors are easier to select and more customizable. The base character is now grayscale so that any color can be selected.
  • A portrait selector has now been added, so that a portrait will show during dialogue. You have to pick from a presetermined list, but I hope to make it more customizable in the future.

  • You can pick a portrait that matches your chosen clan!
  • Added more information to crafting locations, including requirements when right clicking.
  • When selecting an item that interacts with the world, the mouse cursor changes so that it is slightly more obvious something is happening.
  • Finally, there are so many minor bugs that I find and fix as they come up that I usually do not make note of them. I am trying to make commits more often so that I remember what I changed. If something is broken please let me know!

Next steps:

  • Currently, when you kill the boss nothing happens. I need to write some final dialogue and determine what the rewards will be. I also need to pick special drops for the boss. Since he is a grass spirit, I might make some grass armor that drops at a rare-ish rate. The boss will be repeatable so that all of his drops can potentially be obtained.
  • There are a few little annoyances still lingering with path-making that I need to address.
  • My next major goal will be adding animals that spawn in the overworld. Each animal will have preferences (plants if herbivores, other animals if carnivores) that, when enough are present, animals will be more likely to spawn. They will provide some service, such as clearing weeds (herbivores), eating pests of farming crops (carnivores), and dispersing new seeds (birds). Due to this, I think this quest will be the last one I add for awhile while I focus on getting animals working.
